Driven by my sweet tooth and magpie-like greed for color, my work is an
attempt to harness delight and intrigue using a medley of saccharine palettes
and confectionary forms.
I am drawn to the tactile qualities of food and the immediate notes of nostalgia
or distaste it can generate. Unlike clay, food has the ability to entice all five
senses, and referencing elements of color, form, and texture from the culinary
world allows my sculptures to artificially evoke the appetites of viewers.
Each piece emanates an individual curiosity; an “eat me” temptation, intent to
determine whether a piece is fresh or stale, artificial or organic, sweet or
savory. While some forms are quite lush, others are slightly off-putting, and
many beckon your taste buds. The pieces reference a number of familiar forms,
yet are ambiguous enough to not conjure an immediate label. Their bite-sized
scale invites you to partake in pondering their potential flavor, texture, and
ingredients.
